Remedies for the Syndrome of Absent Archives
records, appropriations, montages, transfers, and amendments of the image
This exhibition integrates the work of five artists that work with photographic archives in the northeast region of Mexico: Rebecca Goldschmidt (Phoenix, Arizona), Rubén G. Marrufo (Mexicali, BC), Mariel Miranda (México, DF), Jorge Luis Osiris Arias (Cuernavaca, Morelos) y Adriana Trujillo (Tijuana, BC).
Within the presented disciplines of this exhibition we encounter photography, installation, video and cinema. The works use photographic archives – foreign or personal – as substance, which together with the action of the artist, propose alternative readings, re-contextualized and poetic, of the images. They put in practice the exercise of collecting, which is not hoarding, but rather an articulation of objects collected – a system of personal meanings – demonstrating the concept of relationship as a structural element, through the appropriation, assembly, translations and the erasures of images.
